Creative Corner

Students had the chance to explore and sketch a variety of pumpkins, gourds and squash. They first drew the shapes they saw in pencil and then added colour using oil pastel. They made some great observations about what they noticed, and made predictions about what was inside.

Science

Ms. Desilva asked the class for some help this week. She needed to figure out how to get 2 paperclips out of a vase filled with water. The students came up with some really interesting ways to solve the problem.

Solution: Put your hand into  the vase and pick them up.
Problem: Ms. Desilva didn't want to get her hands wet.

Solution: Pour the water down the drain.
Problem: The water was very special and she didn't want it going down the drain.

Solution: Pour the water into another container instead of down the drain.
Problem: We didn't have another container.

Solution: Stick a pencil in to fish the paperclips out.
Problem: We didn't want to get the pencil wet.

Ms. Desilva showed the class a magnet and asked what they might be able to do with it. The class was amazed when she put the magnet on the side of the vase and was able to pull the paperclips up the side and out the top! We had a short discussion on different materials and will be launching a Unit Of Inquiry about materials later next week.
