Week of January 29th

Patterning

We have been learning how to create, extend and find the core of patterns. Student's have been challenged to come up with tricky patterns and have their peers and teachers figure out the core and label it using the alphabet. 

Literacy Learning Centres

Students have been enjoying exploring with beginning sound mats. They are also learning to determine the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters.

Field Trip to Mr. Casey's Classroom

A group of students were invited to Mr. Casey's classroom this week to show the Grade 7's how great we are at coming up with "I wonder" questions! During our inquiry units, students have been coming up with great questions using Who, What, Where, When, Why and How. Mr. Casey set up a tower in his classroom for us and the Grade 7's to wonder about.

Some of our wonderings included:

- "How can it stand up with just the strings?"

- "How long will the string hold for?"

- "How did the people make it?"

- "Why are there Lego guys on the strings?"

- "Why does the pole have tape on it?"

Bell Let's Talk Day

This week was Bell Let's Talk Day. We took some time to discuss and reflect on different things make us happy when we are sad. We discussed both positive and negative things we can do when we are feeling sad or upset. The class was read "A happy book", followed by writing and drawing what makes them feel happy.
