Week of May 7th

Happy Mother's Day
A very Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there! This week we celebrated Mother's Day at the Leaside Library by listening to 4 stories about Mothers.

Such beautiful weather for a walk!

Loose Parts Play - Spring Flowers
Students selected a variety of Loose Parts to create spring flowers. It's great to see how creative they were with the materials they chose!

Literacy: Syllables
This week the class worked on sorting and graphing words according to the number of syllables they contain. We used a clapping out strategy, but slowing saying the words and clapping each time we take a puff of air.

DrumFit
This week during Gym, students participated in a DrumFit class! Using exercise balls and drum sticks, they followed different movements instructed by a teacher. Everyone really enjoyed this special activity!

Math: Tricky Word Problem

This week, we worked as a class to solve the following tricky word problem:

Part A
Miss. Manikas did 20 push ups in the morning. And then she did 20 push ups at lunch. How many push ups did she do all together?

Part B
If Miss. Manikas wants to do a total of 50 push ups today, how many more does she need to do after school?

It was really interesting for the class to see how there was more than one way to solve the problem and still get the correct answer.

  1. I love the idea of the drum fit - I would love to implement it in my morning or afternoon circle for the "tiny teacher" as an opportunity as showcasing/shining. Also, if and when needed, a great sensory activity for students with self regulation needs.
